TORRIJOS, MARINDUQUE: The Bloody Mountain
By: Nickson Garcia

From February 23 to 25, 2019, the Untold Philippines barkada traveled to a province that oftentimes referred to as "the heart of the Philippines" - Marinduque.

The three day journey centered around exploration of some well known tourism destinations of the province. Maniwaya island, Palad sandbar, Mongpong rock formation and Poctoy beach were amongst the most common destination for tourist that we visited. But the adventure would never be "untold" without exploring some of the best kept secrets of Marinduque.

Torrijos is a 3rd class municipality in the province and is well known for the white sands of Poctoy beach. In fact, when asked about what to see in Torrijos, majority of tourists and locales only knew the beach.

Untold barkada explored another destination in Torrijos, the Battle of Pulang Lupa. The shrine is a commemoration of the "bloody" battle between two forces which was won by revolutionary Filipinos over the Americans on September 13, 1900.

Getting there could be difficult since it is located at top of a mountain. Tourists would need to rent a vehicle (motorcycle or jeepney) to reach its peak where the shrine is located. The mountain of Pulang Lupa is also a perfect place to sight astonishing views of the nearby mountains and beaches making it a must visit site in the province.
